chronic fatigue therapy
chronic fatigue OVERVIEW
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a serious, long-term illness that affects many body systems. Another name for it is myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). CFS can often make you unable to do your usual activities. Sometimes you may not even be able to get out of bed. The cause of CFS is unknown. There may be more than one thing that causes it. It is possible that two or more triggers might work together to cause the illness.

THERAPY OVERVIEW
Although, Hyperbaric Oxygen HBO2 therapy is an old modality, it is relatively new for practitioners of physical and rehabilitation medicine. In addition, there are several studies on HBO2 therapy in treating musculoskeletal disorders. HBO2 therapy is defined as the intermittent inhalation of 100% oxygen in a hyperbaric chamber at a pressure higher than 1 atmosphere absolute, the normal atmospheric pressure at sea level. HBO2 therapy is usually administered at 1.3 to 3 atm abs. Typically, the duration of HBO2 therapy varies from 30 to 120 minutes. HBO2 therapy is administered using monoplace chambers. In the former, a single patient is treated and internal pressure is raised with oxygen. HBO2 therapy causes mechanic and physiologic effects. One of the physiologic effects is to increase evacuation of ROS and lactic acid from the body

effectiveness
A randomized, controlled trial was conducted on 29 CFS patients. Trends were found using paired t-testing for Mycoplasma infected CFS patients. The general perceived fatigue decreased after hyperbaric therapy. Directly after one week of hyperbaric therapy general fatigue symptoms improved and there was a reduction of activity and general perceived health. One month later the physical role increased. Reduced fatigue, increased levels of activity and an improved reaction time improved significantly their quality of life and therefore, enhanced also their functional status and thus could be used as an adjudicative therapy.
